AIS announces the Pathmakers Merit Scholarship 
Criteria for AIS 5th Graders Moving to 6th Grade!

The Pathmakers Merit Scholarship recognizes and rewards rising 6th grade students who exemplify both exceptional academic potential and outstanding leadership within our school community. Recipients demonstrate our school's core values of adaptability, creativity, inclusivity, autonomy, kindness, and responsibility, not only paving the way for their own future success but also enriching our entire school community. Three scholarships will be awarded annually, open to both incoming and current AIS rising 6th grade students. Selected students will receive a 25% tuition reduction for their remaining years at AIS, provided they maintain a good academic and behavioral standing.

The following criteria will be used to identify deserving recipients:

Commitment to the School Community

Active Participation:
The student has consistently participated in school activities, clubs, or events during their 5th-grade year. They show enthusiasm for engaging in the school’s academic, social, and extracurricular life.

Positive Influence:
The student positively contributes to the classroom, school, and peers by offering support, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging others.

Consistent Attendance:
A record of punctuality and consistent attendance, reflecting dedication to their education and the community.

Intent to Return:
The student must demonstrate a clear commitment to returning to the AIS for the next academic year. This includes completing re-enrollment forms and expressing a desire to continue their education within the school community.

Demonstration of Core Values

Students must exemplify the following core values, which are central to our school culture:

Adaptability:
The student embraces change, is flexible in the face of challenges and adjusts to new situations with a positive attitude.

Creativity:
The student approaches learning and problem-solving with original ideas, innovative thinking, and a willingness to explore new possibilities.

Inclusivity:
The student actively fosters a welcoming environment, includes others, and respects differences, making sure everyone feels valued.
 

Autonomy:
The student demonstrates self-motivation, takes initiative in their learning, and is responsible for their own actions and decisions.

Kindness:
The student shows compassion, empathy, and respect towards others. They help and support peers in both academic and personal matters.

Responsibility:
The student takes accountability for their actions and contributes to the community by fulfilling their roles, whether in class or outside of it.

Teacher and Staff Recommendations

Teacher Support:
A recommendation from at least one current teacher that speaks to the student's character, academic effort, and overall contributions to the classroom and school community.

Staff Endorsement:
A recommendation from a staff member (could be a counselor, coach, or other school personnel) supporting the student’s alignment with the school’s values and their leadership potential.

Application Process

Application Form:
Students must complete an application form that includes brief essays or responses highlighting their contributions to the school community, their personal growth, and how they embody the core values.

Parent/Guardian Letter:
A letter from a parent or guardian detailing the student's involvement in school life, their character development, and how they demonstrate the school’s core values at home and in the community.

Teacher Recommendations:
Students must submit two recommendation letters. The first must come from a current or former teacher, while the second should be from another school-affiliated adult, such as a coach, counselor, outside teacher, or tutor. These letters should address the student's academic performance, classroom behavior, and involvement in school activities.

Award and Recognition

Merit Scholarship Award:
Recipients of the scholarship will receive 25% financial assistance towards tuition.
